In my test
shoot I wanted to test the lighting. I tried most simple poses, just as I
planned the first shot – subject sitting on the bed before going to sleep. For this
shot I used single light and tried to create dark room with just model light
and with strong shadows. However, due to the fact that the bed is near the wall
and they are white it was very difficult to control the light.
I believe
that this shot is the most successful from this shoot, because I like the way
my subject is light, the shadows and even the expression. He looks tired and
concerned about the night that is coming. Moreover, I got a very nice shadow
behind his back, which symbolises the dark side of sleep paralysis. It looks
that someone is already waiting and something is going to happen.
I also
tried to shoot the person lying in the bed. I tried different styles of
lighting – light from the window, light from table lamp or the same single
light that I used for my first shot. Unfortunately, none of them worked for me.
I believe
that this test was very helpful, because I realised that if I do my final shoot
similar way, I will need a different room, because it was very hard to control
the light when the walls are white and bed stands near them. Ideally free standing
bed would work perfect for my final shoot.
