Project Proposal Pro Forma & guidance notes
Précis
In response to a report that states that Lithuania has a
highest suicide rate in Europe I am making a short film that represents the
struggles that people have and what leads to a point when person decides to commit
suicide.
Rationale
Suicide is still one of the biggest problems in my home
country Lithuania. It has a highest suicide rate in Europe with 28.2 deaths per
100,000 people annually. Every year there are many articles about suicide and
it seems that it is never going to stop. The
high suicide rates in Lithuania have been associated with a wide range of
factors including rapid socio-economic transition, increasing psychological and
social insecurity and the absence of a national suicide prevention strategy. In
this project I want to reveal the truth what is hiding behind suicidal person’s
doors.
There is saying that if you want to know the person you have
to see his home. A person’s home can represent their current state of mind. It
may be hard to see signs of depression in person, but home is the place where
it cannot be hidden.
Aims & Objectives
This project is aimed to bring public and officials
attention to the issue of people committing suicide.
Overview
All I need is just to find a room I could film in. I wouldn't need any actors as my idea is to film just items. Equipment
considerations: it can be done on my camera.
Synopsis
The action is in a dark, cluttered one bedroom apartment. In
the rooms the human presence still can be felt. Rooms are filled with personal
belongings.
It would start from a place where there still are some happy
life moments, maybe pictures with family from a childhood.
It would move to dreams that once that person had, for example
post cards of exotic places. Then the view would move to a table with unpaid
bills on it (which would explain why dreams that this person had were not meant
to become true).
As further it’d go to a room as darker and more depressing
it would get: unwashed dishes in the kitchen, dust on the surfaces, signs of
loneliness and unhappiness.
The final scene is (something that symbolises
death, maybe just the legs hanging) Research:
In Lithuania this topic is relevant, however after I did a little bit more research I realised that this does not apply to UK.This problem exists everywhere, however the reasons are different and UK compared to Lithuania is different. That is why it would be too difficult to create something that would apply for both countries and majority of people. I decided not to move further with this idea for this module.
Below I included statistics:
